Sigh… I do love Valentine’s Day…but my kids are getting big, and my son is not too enthusiastic about all the “girly” and “mushy” Valentine decor.
Alas, he is only 10…one day he will appreciate it…I hope.
Anyway, this year I decided to go a little neutral and a wee bit masculine…with a touch of sparkle of course!
Paper Medallion Valentine LOVE Banner
Yep…no pink…no ribbons…not a heart in sight! Yet, it still has red sparkles and a touch of tulle…even the word LOVE!
For the last few years I have tried to focus on teaching my daughter and son about what LOVE really means. You can see one of my first posts on Love is a Verb.
Love is more than just those warm fuzzies…
It is more than just endless hours of conversation…
Love is about sacrifice and action. In our home, John 3:16 are the words of the ultimate action of Love. I created a printable out of this verse a few years ago
So, I try to make Valentine’s Day special for my family. This Paper Medallion Valentine Banner was just what my little shelf over my cooktop needed.
Supplies Needed for Love Banner…
Large circle or scallop punch
Medium circle or scallop punch
Patterned wrapping paper {this came from the Target dollar spot}
Linen chipboard pieces {these came in a 4 pack from Michaels}
Solid colored heavy cardstock
Red glittered chipboard letters {these are from Michaels}
Red Glitter
Modge Podge
Red Tulle
Start by cutting strips of the wrapping paper. I cut mine 1 3/4 inches wide and about 30 inches long. Then simply fan fold {pleat} the length of strips of cut wrapping paper. I folded mine in about 1/2 inch folds. Once you have pleated the paper, tape the ends together.
Flatten out the pleated paper into a circle. Punch a large scallop circle and glue it to the back of the pleated medallion. Punch a medium scallop circle and glue on front. Glue the chipboard letter in the center of the smaller scallop circle.
Next, use a foam paint brush to dab Modge Podge onto the ends of the pleats. Sprinkle with the red glitter while it is wet. Allow to dry and then glue it onto the linen chipboard pieces. Thread the tulle through the holes in the chipboard pieces and you are all done!
My son has given it the seal of approval…I think secretly he likes Valentine’s Day…
We would love for you to check out some of our other Valentine’s Day Projects, including our Love One Another Pillow and Valentine Apothecary Jars.
Enjoy!
