I absolutely adore fall, like don’t tell summer, but it is my favorite…shhhh…that will be our secret! The colors, textures, crisp weather, and even football bring back amazing memories for me. Then when Thanksgiving arrives…perfection!
This year, I decide to go neutral in my fall and Thanksgiving decor. Let me share my Neutral Thanksgiving Tablescape with you…
Yes, I have a very traditional dining room and I love it! We have a large extended family and holidays in this room are so much fun. The little ones enjoy being included at the “big table” too. This year, I stuck with warm tones of brown. From the furniture, to the chargers, to the candles..it all pulls from a similar color family. I think my style would be “traditional with a twist”.
Candles at a table evoke a warm feeling of coziness and make the meal extra special. These candles have a little extra secret, they are not real. Seriously, the best looking fake candles ever. No more “don’t bump the table” or fear of leaving unattended. They are ombre’ colored to match the wheat, which gives them a touch of whimsy. I even added a bit of wrapped leather twine to a few for even more interest.
I am a detailed oriented person, and something so simple like adding the bit of leather around the candles is perfect. It also brings in another texture that feels like fall. Leather Wrapped Candles are a simple and quick idea. Now, flip those candles on and you are all set!
Do you have to have formal china for the dining room? Not necessarily! I chose to use some mismatched creamy white plates in this tablesetting. I nestled some fun woven chargers underneath to complete the casual feel. But yes, I did put my wedding silver in those adorable Burlap Utensil Holders. We rarely use the silver, so why not get it out? Right?
The mix of “formal traditional” with “casual rustic” really created a welcoming atmosphere. I picked those chargers up years ago and they have been one of my favorite home decor items ever since.
My husband’s grandmother was the absolute best. She was my Emily Post of all things home. Two of the things that drove her nuts about me were…my children not wearing socks as infants { we live in the south and it is like 110 degrees } and not having a table cloth with a pad underneath it on my dining room table. But, I prefer to see the wood of the table, so in general, I usually use a runner like this rustic burlap one…
I feel like it creates more of a casual feel to your tablescape and allows the beauty of the wood to show through. I even have one with little stenciled bunnies painted on the ends for Easter and spring. I do like a charger underneath each plate to protect the table a bit.
So how about a centerpiece? So many great options for this time of the year. I chose to create a simple and elegant Wheat Bundle Centerpiece…
Add a slice of wood to place it on and you have just the right touch of nature inspired fall decor…don’t you think? The whispy stalks of wheat are the perfect compliment to the formality of the room. Did you notice I chose to paint my dining room green? I think it brings out the wood perfectly.
So there you have my Neutral Thanksgiving Tablescape. From the place setting, to the centerpiece, to little details scattered about, creating a fall tablescape is all about colors, textures, and warmth.

So will you be hosting Thanksgiving in your home this year? Or just a fall dinner? I hope that I have provided you with a bit of inspiration on creating a warm, welcoming tablescape.
