This Summer I had the pleasure of styling a party for one of my sweet neighbors. For her sixth birthday, she wanted a party in her backyard with all of her gal pals and face painting. Now… I have to tell you…this child cracks me up. Seriously, cracks me up. She is hysterically funny, strikingly beautiful, and has an insane amount of natural athletic talent. Together, we decided on a butterfly breakfast which was perfect for this stunning little acrobat and because it is too hot to anything outside around here after about 11:30am! Now for the details!
The girls followed a trail of paper butterflies to the entrance of their back yard. There, the girls were greeted with a sign that was surrounded with brightly colored tissue poms. It was so cheery and exciting!
The party guests then entered through a beautiful arbor that had larger than life butterflies and into the backyard.
Once inside, they were greeted by the birthday girl who helped them find their wings that were perched on the fence. After that, they scoured the yard for the matching flower headbands to complete their outfit.
The food table was simply enchanting. A patterned pennant banner flanked the table that was packed with lots of butterfly goodies. The girls loved the fluttercakes that had lifelike edible butterflies on top and they really enjoyed the pink nectar due to the crazy heat. You can find the butterflies at Miss Cupcake Canada’s shop here. My favorite part of the party were the lanterns that looked like they had butterflies landing on them. I was inspired by the lanterns by good old Martha.
The girls enjoyed playing butterfly badminton, making themselves into caterpillar cocoons and, of course, the face painting! The inspiration for the games was found here. I think everyone had a ball. I sure did!
