Well…the time has come ..the time is now!
If you have been following along, we have showed you how to plan an outdoor project and how to shop for an outdoor project with the help of the Home Depot and the Garden Club. { if you have missed those…quick go back and check them out so that you are all up to speed! }
Today I am going to show you our completed Zipper Pathway and how we did it! Woo Hoo!
So after all the planning, shopping, and a day in our yard…we are thrilled with our results…
Don’t you just love it! My kids and dog have already tried it out. The way it has brought our front yard together is just what we had hoped for!
In case you missed our earlier posts, here is a look at our yard before…
and…here is the finished result…
I am beyond happy with the results! No more packed dirt and mud!
So how did our family create this paver stone Zipper Pathway? We followed the wonderful instructions on the Home Depot Garden Club site. The step by step process with images made the project come together very nicely…
By breaking up the project into different stages, we were able to tackle it together and get through a couple of bumps in the road.
Those bumps are called roots…
Yep..my husband and I spent a little more time than expected digging up roots that had encroached into the bed. It was work, but it made a huge difference later in being able to make the stones level.
Once we had cleared out all the roots, the project was back on track!
We had already shopped for all the supplies on our list from Home Depot. I checked my planner and we got moving on creating a welcoming Zipper Pathway in our yard…
Remember, I told you the entire family was going to participate. My son joined in on the tamping part. He thought is was actually pretty “cool” to watch the paver base go from rocks to dust.
Don’t know what tamping is you say? Well check out this little video to see what it is
all about…
At this point we had completed our pathway up to planting the dwarf mondo grass.Depending on where you live and the climate, you can choose an appropriate ground cover.
The Home Depot Garden Club site can help you make a good choice for you own Zipper Pathway.
I was excited with the outdoor solar lights we picked out too. They really look wonderful and match the style of our Lowcountry Home. They provide the perfect amount of light …
Wanna know the best part of this project?
We did it together! Yep..and we survived..hehe! It is a great feeling to take something on, work through it together, and come out smiling and satisfied…
So do you think we stopped with just the Zipper Pathway? Do you think we are going to tackle any other outdoor projects?
Stay tuned…
Bonnie

Well done Bonnie! As a professional remodeler I spend most of my days inside of homes, but when it comes to my own 110 year old Victorian, I try to spend as much time as possible outside! I love how the mondo grass looks but I’m thinking that it would be even more interesting to plant a wonderful smelling herb along the pathway. Perhaps thyme or oregano – maybe even basil!

What a fabulous idea Sam! That really get me thinking about using that in another little project! 😉 Thanks so much!
