Faux Christmas Chalkboard Wall Art was written on behalf of Michaels Craft Stores. All opinions and craftiness are our own!
As a craft blogger, the one question that we hear over and over again is what inspires you? That question can be so hard to answer because inspiration is everywhere! Most of the time, however, I am inspired by all of you… other crafters, friends, family, women who love to create.
Recently, I saw this adorable holiday sign shared on Instagram by Homerehabs. It featured a pretty Christmas chalkboard and I knew it was such a great idea for my mantel!
I have to admit… I am not good with chalk art. By not good, I mean terrible! I knew there must be a way around that little issue, but I wasn’t sure. I found this great vinyl decal on Etsy. It was perfect and I wouldn’t have to draw a thing!
I got a large piece of foam core board and covered it with a piece of black project paper. The paper was the type that you find in a roll in the model section of the craft store. I simply wrapped it up like a gift.
I then framed the board and rubbed chalk all over to season the chalkboard and give it a realistic effect. I wiped off the excess chalk with a paper towel. For full instructions on how to make the frame, you can visit the chalkboard art guru… Dear Lillie!
To finish the project, I transferred the vinyl decal to the chalkboard. To make sure it was even, I measured and marked off with chalk. It really was so simple, because the decal came ready to go on transfer paper. Just peel and stick!
I love that I have such a large piece over my mantel and it was so affordable! You can’t beat a custom piece that is everything that you envisioned… and more!
What will you make this Christmas?

I would have never guessed this wasn’t actually a chalkboard! I think I’m going to have to make my own!

Love this! I think it’s brilliant to skip the lettering and go for a decal.

What a great secret cheater trick! Love it. For those of us that are chalk challenged… and don’t have an overhead projector!
The big size really make a beautiful statement.

It looks great and I love the idea of using vinyl rather than trying to freehand something with chalk (or having to find a projector!).
