I’m so honored to be here at Uncommon Designs! My name is Megan and I blog over at Megan Brooke Handmade. I recently got married and had a blast planning my wedding. You can see pictures from our rustic outdoor farm wedding here and here. When it came to planning my wedding, it was important for me to stick to my budget and make or buy affordable decorations. I also loved the idea of making my own decorations because it adds a personal touch to your wedding.
For those of you who are planning a wedding or will be soon, I have an easy diy wedding project just for you that will definitely fit in your budget. As in, it will only cost you around $10 to make!
Here’s how you can make your own diy silhouette cake toppers.
Here are all the supplies you will need.
The little round wood pieces I found at Hobby Lobby for .99.
First you will need to create your silhouette stencils. I used my Silhouette machine to create the girl and boy silhouette. If you don’t have a Silhouette machine, just download the images you like from the internet, print them off from your computer, and cut the images out, leaving you with a stencil.
After you have your stencil ready, I went ahead and painted the sides and back of the wood pieces white. I liked the idea of having the fronts still be the raw wood to give it a rustic feel, but give the sides and back a polished look with an additional color.
Once your paint dries, hold your stencil and wood up to the light to make sure you center your stencil onto the wood.
You’ll take your paint color of choice {you could do black or white instead of the tan/orange color I used for example} and use a stencil brush or any small brush to dab the paint onto your stencil and onto the wood.
I let the paint dry for just a few minutes before pulling the stencil away.
You’ll do this for both stencils.
Once your paint is dry, just glue your lollipop stick onto the backs {these sticks can be found at any craft store and are typically near the baking supply aisle}.
Just let the glue dry completely and that’s it!
You could totally get creative with these too. You could stencil Mr. or Mrs., I Do, or anything really!
The wood pieces are perfect for a rustic or farm wedding theme {which clearly I am partial too}.
Hope that gave you some wedding diy inspiration! I’ll be back in February for another fun diy wedding project. Until then, you can follow me on Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, or Google + for additional decorating and home design inspiration.
