I am proud to be a 3M, Behr®, and Wooster® – sponsored blogger, and, as part of my responsibilities, I get the opportunity to evaluate products. Opinions are my own and additional product used in the project were selected by me.
Hey Y’all! I adore this time of the year, and nothing makes me happier than a bit of DIY craftiness to celebrate the season. This year, I wanted to spruce up my front porch for the Christmas season. Nothing says “Welcome!” like a festive entry to your home.
I have wanted to make these simple, vintage buckets for quite some time. So with supplies from The Home Depot and products from ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape, Behr®, and Wooster®, I created these simple Vintage Stripe Aged Galvanized Buckets for my front porch.
I used ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape Multi-Surface with Advanced Edge-Lock™ Paint Line Protector, However Scotch® Masking Tape 2060 would’ve made he paint lines sharper on the rough surface since it’s designed for concrete, brick, grout, and lacquer applications.
These galvanized buckets are the perfect accent to my traditional southern porch. The beautiful red combined with the gently aged buckets adds just the right amount of color to celebrate the season.
The hardest part of this project just may be deciding how to fill them. I chose a sweet little spruce tree, some kindling firewood, and a bucket of pinecones and magnolia stems. I added a few sweet little birds to welcome my guests and family to our home.
Let’s get started creating your Vintage Stripe Aged Galvanized Buckets!
Supplies Needed:
________________________________________________
1. Galvanized Buckets in different sizes of choice
2. Behr® Marquee™ Paint in Reddest Red #QE-06
3. Behr® Marquee™ Paint in Jet White #QE-01
4. ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape Multi-Surface with Advanced Edge-Lock™ Paint Line Protector 2093EL
4. Wooster® PRO Nylon 1 inch Thin Angle Sash paint brush
5. Wooster® PRO Cage Frame Mini Rollers 4 1/2 x 3/8 inch
6. Wooster® PRO Mini Roller Cage Frame 4 1/2 & 6 1/2 inch
7. Steel Wool
8. Gel Toilet Bowl Cleaner
______________________________________________
STEP ONE:
Prep the galvanized buckets for painting. I chose to coat mine with gel toilet bowl cleaner and use a steel wool pad to rub it in. Wear gloves when doing this and outside. Allow the cleaner to sit on the bucket for about and hour before thoroughly rinsing it all off and drying the bucket. The gel toilet bowl cleaner causes the galvanized bucket to age a bit and makes it not so shiny. I wanted a more vintage look and did not want to shiny metal showing through.
STEP TWO:
Using the Wooster® PRO Nylon Paint Brush to apply the Behr® Marquee™ Jet White paint to the bucket. I used a dry brush technique to only give the bucket a washed and aged look. You can do this by removing most of the paint from the brush { I used a paper plate to dab the brush on to remove the paint }and then gently use an “X” motion to apply the paint to the bucket. Once you have the look you desire, allow the bucket to dry.
See how this paint technique gives the bucket an aged look? Just wait until you see how fabulous this white aged bucket looks with beautiful red stripes. Can you say…Christmas?
STEP THREE:
Now you will tape off simple stripes with the ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape. Get creative here, no two buckets need to be the same unless that is the look you are going for. I chose to tape each bucket off differently.
Make sure to press down the edges of the tape. Let your creativity show here!
STEP FOUR:
I love the rich red color I chose for this part of the project. I used the Wooster® PRO Cage Frame Mini Rollers to paint the stripes. The coverage of the Behr® Marquee™ paint is fabulous. I covered the taped off area in one easy coat. Paint each of your taped off stripes with the paint. Allow to dry and then remove the tape.
Loving these! It is always amazing to see what a little paint can do for a diy project. The ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape is easy to use and the result is wonderful. It is my go to painter’s tape.
Now you have some fun and stylish Vintage Stripe Aged Galvanized Buckets!
The bold stripes look amazing! The red paint color is a deep, saturated red. A perfect Christmas color.
Now have fun deciding how to fill your buckets with seasonal decorations!
Creating something new and beautiful can be a great way to relax and get you into the holiday spirit!
