This is the first post in our new series, Uncommon Events. Every Thursday we will feature one of my passions, party design! I am so excited to showcase a fabulous party that I styled with a good friend of mine this past weekend.
Madeline wanted to invite her friends to a picnic for her birthday with their American Girl dolls and she also loves ladybugs. So what else do you for a sweet seven year-old, but an American Girl Ladybug Picnic!
The decorations for the main table were so much fun! We used tissue grass as a tablecovering and it really set the tone for the entire space. Above the table was a precious ladybug pennant banner and tissue balls in the coordinating red, black, and white.
The girls sipped their pink lemonade out of vintage shaped milk bottles that were perfectly paired with party circles, ribbon, and straws that were red and white polka dots and black and white stripes. The beverage dispensers were also labeled and decorated to match.
Each party guest snacked on a personalized bag lunch and was able to take home a mini picnic basket just the perfect size for their dolls that had a ladybug hair clip inside. Isn’t everything cuter as a mini? Love!
Speaking of minis… even the dolls had their own picnic space out by the lake!
For the party activity we had the girls make tu tu’s for their dolls and dress them up in ladybug costumes. The girls absolutely loved this part and were so excited that all of their dolls looked alike and had halloween costumes, too! The birthday girl is pictured above with her favorite ladybug. Isn’t she the most stylish seven year-old you have ever seen? Love her dotted wedges!
Now, I can style a party, but I have no talent at all in the world of baking. Thank goodness for Betsy, my partner in crime for this event, and the birthday girl’s mom. She made this fabulous two-tiered cake that was accented with edible ladybugs. Such talent and the perfect end to the party! Happy Birthday Maddie!
Looking forward to partying with you every Thursday! See you then!

Aww! This is such a FABULOUS idea for a birthday party! My baby girl is turning a year old next month, and while I’m in NO hurry for her to grow up, it will be so much fun to plan parties where they can do things like make dolly tutus. 🙂 Love it!!
