School is out…let summer begin! But wait, alas, we have summer reading {and all the children say…”BOO!”}. I have already showed you the DIY Vintage Crates I created to help organize all of our summer reading essentials. Today, we will address part 2…
Organizing A Summer Reading Station !!

The first step was to actually get the books they needed! I put the books in each crate, that I labeled with their initials using chalkboard paper and a chalk pen.
Next, I took each of their summer reading assignments and reduced the size of them. I then place them inside self adhesive laminating pouches. I punched holes in the corners of the pouches, and tied them onto the crates with jute twine! Hopefully, this will solve the…”Mom, do you know where my summer reading assignment is?” question!

I also created journals for each of my children’s crates. In the front of my son’s journal, I included Drawing Prompts. I chose this instead of writing prompts for him because that is how he best expresses himself.

In the back of my son’s journal is his school folder to keep track of all the books he reads over the summer break!

Now for my daughter, I included a writing prompts printable. She thrives in writing !

I included a very simple printable book record in the back of her journal..as they get older, the books get larger and they do not read quite as many as they used to!

So, that is how we are rolling this summer! This bookcase sits right in the heart of our home…the kitchen! Our cute little DIY vintage crates occupy the bottom shelf and are both adorable and practical! Each one has been individualized and personalized for my children and contain all their summer reading “stuff” all in one place!

This is such a great idea! Our kids are still young that we just give them a timed reading requirement for summer but I will definitely be pinning this for when they get a little older.
This is such a wonderful idea! My boys finished school last week and this would be a great way to keep them reading throughout the summer.
