Goodwill, our local thrift store, is such a great place to find unique items to transform into something new. Trish and I visit Goodwill with different “glasses” on than we would have in a traditional store, it is less about what we see that we need or want, and more about how can we take something plain and turn it into something great!
Today, I am going to show you how I took a $5.00 dated, old picture and frame and turned it into a very hip, current bulletin board.
So, this is where I started…
I am sure it was fabulous in its day! Anyway, after taking the particle board photo out, I put a little wood filler in the corners. I actually used the other side of the frame as the front…
Once the wood filler was dry, I gave it a quick sanding and was ready to paint…
I chose a vibrant “avocado” color by Krylon! I love the way it just pops and can be used for so many different occasions!
Once the frame was dry, I gathered my supplies for the next step…
1. Chicken Wire {you can find this at a home supply store or farm supply store}
2.Wire Cutters and gloves!
3. Sophisticated Finishes rust antiquing solution { I found this at Michaels}
4. Staple gun and staples
I followed a great tutorial from Brown Paper Packages on how to attach the chicken wire to the frame. I would highly suggest gloves!! I may or may not have needed a few band aids during this project.
I loved the way it looked at this point, but I wanted a more “aged” look! This is where that Sophisticated Finishes product comes into play. I had seen a great tutorial over at Homeroad on how to “rust” chicken wire. This stuff worked great! I simply dabbed it on the chicken wire and, presto, instant dark aging!
I know it is hard to see a difference in these photos, but it really does take the sheen off the chicken wire. Now all I have to do is hang my saweet “new” bulletin board and add clothespins to hang little notes, photos, and mini masterpieces by my children!
I hope that you have enjoyed my little “trip” to Goodwill. Really, such a great place to both donate to and shop from. Try it, you’ll be hooked!

Love it! I’ve seen a neat frame at a local thrift store, but the joints aren’t perfect, so that wood filler would work perfectly
I love me some chicken wire too, guess the next time I get the dogs food at TSC I’ll have to check out the chicken wire
Thanks for sharing!

I love the finished look! I have a love/hate relationship with chicken wire stemming from actually needing to use it for its intended purpose. Some day I’ll break down and make one of these!
Thanks so much for linking up to Creative Thursday this week. I actually could go through the hall closet and find a bunch of frames. This would be great for Mother’s Day.
I can’t wait to see what you link up next week. Have a great day.
Michelle
Your repurposed frame turned out great! I have a similar one that I have hanging in my kitchen. I have old recipes clipped onto it.
Beautiful job, Bonnie! I’ve always loved these and yours is so pretty – great frame, gorgeous color!
Fabulous re use. But no, the original was not fabulous in its day.

I LOVE THIS! How cute will that be with lots of little photos & notes clothespinned to it??!! Thanks for linking up.
Bonnie, that looks like a wonderful way to display (and keep track of) earrings, other hangable accessories. I may do one with cork or something on a portion for post earrings, pins, etc. If I ever figure out how to link up, I’ll do it!
That frame turned out awesome!!! What a remake!
Thanks for sharing it!
