Hey y’all!
We have a really fun craft to share with you that we orginally posted on Positively Splendid. This one is sure to get you excited about the start of a new school year!
An apple basket pennant garland!
An apple basket pennant garland!
I love to have a little something for my child to bring when we go to “meet the teacher night”. It is such a great way for the little ones to connect with their teacher right from the start and really helps with their jitters, too! It also doesn’t hurt to let the teacher know from the get go, that you appreciate and value what they are about to do for your child.
This year I plan on them bringing a special apple basket all decked out with this fun pennant garland! I can’t wait to show you how to make a garland of your own!
Supplies:
Apple Basket (I painted it turquoise with spray paint)
Scrap Fabric, ruler, and scissors
Ric Rac (2 lengths about 32” long)
Mod Podge and a Foam Brush
Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
Step One. The first thing you want to do is to paint a layer of Mod Podge over each piece of the printed fabric. It only takes about a 10” by 4” fabric scrap in four coordinating patterns to cover this medium sized apple basket. Let the Mod Podge dry.
Step Two. Cut 2 Triangles that are 3 1/2” tall and wide, out of each fabric. You should have 8 triangles when you are done. The Mod Podge that you applied earlier will now help the triangles to not fray.
Step Three. Now you will place the triangles on the ric rac. To make sure everything lined up properly, I held the ric rac up to the basket and measured where the triangles should begin, end, and where the mid point was. When you are laying out the triangles, make sure to keep in mind which patterns will be next to each other! Time for glue! Simply place a small line of hot glue at the very top of the triangle and adhere to the ric rac. Super easy!
Step Four. This is your final step! You want to tie each of the sides together in a bow. Make sure that your bow is tight, so it will all stay! I also placed the center of each bow where the metal curves on the handle just to be on the safe side. If you’d like, you can add a fun Stitched Notebook Paper Tag, as well!
Good luck as the school year begins!
