Hi!
I am half of the voice behind the blog, Uncommon Designs.
I am Bonnie Mauney and so happy to have you stop by and get to know who I am a bit.
I am a crafter and DIYer. I love the challenge of creating exactly what I envision and seeing it through to the end product. I am also a bit of a nerd and love learning the technical side of blogging.
I am also a wife of 22 years and a mother to 2 fabulous children. My family is the most important part of my life and greatest accomplishment.
We live in the incredible state of South Carolina where seersucker is king, double names are common, and flip flops are worn 9 months out of the year. We are halfway between the sandy beaches of SC and the stunning mountains of SC. We truly love living in the south!
I have been incredibly blessed to be a stay-at-home-mom since my daughter was born. Prior to that I graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing. I worked full time as a Coronary Care nurse until starting our family.
Go Tigers!
We are orange through and through. My husband is also a Clemson graduate and we still head up to the football games most weekends in the fall. We are all about traditions and enjoy time away with family and friends.
Since childhood I have been a creative soul. My mom was my biggest influence and fed my passion for creating. She was truly crafty before crafty was cool. I was always envisioning clothing that we had to then sew using multiple patterns put together to get the look I wanted. Once I get an idea in my head, my stubborn red hair kicks in and I am focused on creating the look! It is both a blessing and a curse, seriously.
My sister-in-law, Trish, and I started blogging in 2010. We originally owned a sewing business but branched off into blogging and quickly realized how much we loved it and showing readers how to create their own items. There is something magically therapeutic about creating things for yourself and others.
I would call my style “traditional with a twist”. I try to provide ideas and tutorials for you that are both “on trend” and classic. Like this Wooden Serving Tray, painted with a fun grain sack stripe.
I enjoy creating both seasonal and year round crafts and home decor items. Decorating a bit in our home for seasons as well as most holidays allows our family to celebrate together. Simply projects like these Bird’s Nest Napkin Rings are all you need to create a seasonal feel in your home.
Don’t tell summer, but fall is my absolute favorite time of the year. I gave you a little peak into my home decorated for fall in my Fall Home Tour. My husband and I designed our home 10 years ago. He wanted a new home and I wanted one that felt old and established with lots of character. I think we got the best of both worlds. The memories we have created here are priceless.
I am so happy that you stopped by to get a little peek of who I am and my blogging story.
We would love for you to follow along with Uncommon Designs as we create a beautiful life. Be sure to read more about Uncommon Designs.
